Judge: Marvel owns Ghost Rider rights
Posted: Thu., Dec. 29, 2011, 4:58pm PTA federal court judge has rejected a comicbook author's claim to the character Ghost Rider, ruling that it was clear that Marvel Comics had the rights to the superhero. In a ruling issued on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest granted summary judgment to Marvel after concluding that, even though Gary Friedrich conceived and wrote the first comic book that introduced the character in 1972, he conveyed rights to the character by endorsing checks from Marvel and by signing a 1978 agreement that "effectively ended any remaining ownership claims" he may have had. Friedrich has been pursuing the rights to the character since 2004, as plans were in the works for a movie adaptation eventually released in 2007 and starring Nicolas Cage. A sequel is in the works for release next year. He had argued that he retained rights because he did some of his work as a freelancer, and that even though he signed over rights to the character, he did not sign over the rights to non-comic book use in films, TV and merchandising. But Forrest rejected those arguments. She said that she didn't have to "travel down the rabbit hole" of whether the work was made "for hire" or separate from Marvel. She noted that his freelance checks contained a legend on the back noting that by endorsing them, Marvel retained the character rights. "The law is clear that when an individual endorses a check subject to a condition, he accepts that condition," Forrest wrote. She also said that the 1978 agreement "undoubtedly conveyed whatever renewal rights he may have retained, if any." Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

New Underworld: Awakening images arrive
A new set of images have been released for supernatural sequel Underworld: Awakening, and fans will be pleased to note that Kate Beckinsale still rocks a leather catsuit like nobody else...The new images show Beckinsale's vampire warrior Selene getting to grips with her first taste of freedom, after a long stint in captivity. And from the looks of the trouble she seems to have got herself into, it seems to be a textbook case of out of the frying pan, into the fire. One image stands out in particular, with a flamethrower-wielding assailant advancing on Selene. The vampire race has been uncovered by humans you see, and mankind isn't proving particularly tolerant of their newly discovered neighbours. There's also a look at Theo James' rabble-rousing vampire, David, who looks to be a dab hand with a pitchfork and a flaming torch. He'll be leading the charge of a sect of radical vamps, unwilling to take man's animosity lying down. It's all about the catsuit though really, isn't it? We'll get a chance to see it in all its glory when Underworld: Awakening rolls into UK screens on 20 January 2012.

Four times of 'Christmas' on chart
Despite overall album sales that have been more ho-hum than ho-ho-ho since the Christmas sales season neared its conclusion, Michael Buble's "Christmas" continued to be put at No. 1 round the U.S. album chart now, commanding the very best chart for just about any fourth consecutive week. Crooner's Warner Bros. holiday set needed a 7% dip but nevertheless commanded sales of 448,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for your week ended 12 ,. 18. Yule package has totalled 1.96 million copies in eight days. Buble's album was almost the lone vibrant place in the comparatively flat December album market. While music shopping typically booms inside the immediate pre-Christmas and publish-Christmas days, the possible lack of truly potent new game game titles could erase the threePercent grow in album sales the biz observed using the finish of October. Just two other albums offered greater than 100,000 copies the other day, with no new releases developing a top-10 impression. Inching up one slot to No. 2, Adele's "21" (Columbia) leaped 48% and offered 277,000 within the 43rd chart week -- likely sparked with the fresh single "Set Fire for the Rain." Justin Bieber's "Beneath the Mistletoe" (Island) rose one pole to No. 3 with 171,000 moved (up 8%). Through the pre-Christmas stanza this season, seven albums, introduced by Taylor Swift's "Speak Now," offered a lot more than 100,000 copies. No such hurry is on view this year, though most game game titles round the chart observed percentage gains. Previous week's major entry, Akron duo the Black Keys' "El Camino," slips two positions to No. 4, selling 85,000 (lower 59%). 5 Best is completed by Lady Antebellum's "Own the Evening," which rose 10 slots and 60% to No. 5 by getting an 81,000-copy week, climbing behind a couple of high-profile TV looks. Rounding the very best ten are Nickelback's "PresentInch (No. 6, 80,000 offered, up 22%), Drake's "Be MindfulInch (No. 7, 77,000, up 5%), Andrea Bocelli's "Concerto: Live in Central Park" (No. 8, 76,000 offered, off 3%), Scotty McCreery's "Apparent as Day" (No. 9, 67,000, up 29%) and Amy Winehouse's "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" (No. 10, 65,000, off 43%). Work of Art's Dusty on Why Jerry Was Wrong and Having His Own Short Shorts
Work of Art, Dusty Dusty Mitchell was not only surprised to have been cut from Wednesday's episode of Work of Art, but he was also pretty upset. He stands by his portrait of a child made entirely out of candy as a winning work. "I don't really understand why the judges felt like it needed to be laced with conceptuality," Mitchell, 32, said. "It is a portrait.I think the combination of materials and image provided a sufficient amount of substance that went far beyond a gimmick." Mitchell, who works as an installation artist, sculptor and art teacher in Arkansas, opened up to TVGuide.com about his feelings toward his competitors' portraits, his problem with judge Jerry Saltz's critiques and what's next for him. Plus, his thoughts on having to wear Young's short shorts! You said you were surprised to be sent home. Were there other pieces that you felt didn't work as well as yours? Dusty Mitchell: Yeah. I think Kymia had the best piece and deserved to win the challenge. I think my piece was next. It captured the identity of my subject; it reflected her appropriately. It worked as a portrait and captured the temporary nature of youth. I think Young's idea was good but his execution is this case was a strange combo of being too cluttered and too clean at the same time. Also, other than including the painting that [Young's subject] Terrance did, the piece didn't really offer any personal info about the subject. Lola's piece didn't feel like a portrait to me.It felt more like a historical museum display about currency. And Sara J's work was heartfelt, but I think the presentation/3D composition wasn't great. Work of Art's Michelle on what went wrong, the Kymia controversy and why poop is a good thing Do you think it was fair that the judges labeled your piece "gimmicky"? Mitchell: You can make a case that it is gimmicky, I guess. If you are looking for a reason, you can take a positive or negative stance on any piece.I suppose "gimmicky" would be the downside of my piece. The upside would be that it was an honest and appropriate work that captured the spirit of the child being depicted. The materials related to the image and identity of the piece. They suggested a feeling of "temporary-ness" and looked, smelled, and even tasted like being a kid, and the color palette reflected the energy and attitude of Mairead.Perhaps most important though, it fulfilled the challenge exactly. You had another idea that you ultimately ditched. Why did you change your mind again? Mitchell: The other idea was OK, but not necessarily better. It was different and would have ended up looking more like drawing or painting, which could have worked in my favor, but ultimately it would not have been better, nor would I have had time to finish it.I knew I was running the risk of repeating a past work, but, if you remember, the [self portrait] was not for a challenge and wasn't up for criticism by the judges. And as for the clown piece, I didn't really expect that piece to come up in the discussion. I really didn't like that piece and just kind of deleted it from my thinking after it got me through. Unfortunately, that's what the candy piece reminded Jerry of. Anyway, I felt like I was changing ideas just because that is what the judges would want me to do, and that is basically a sell-out reason to change ideas. So I decided to stick with my instinct and use my original idea. Hence, the backfire. Work of Art's The Sucklord on how the kids challenge ruined him Do you think your subject - a child - hurt you with the judges? Mitchell: Well, the first thing Jerry said in my critique was, "When I found out what the challenge was, I knew you were going to find a kid, and do a portrait of them," or something very close to that. So I thought, "Great, here we go."You never know with the judges. I do know this, though: If you are critiquing someone's work, the easiest thing to say if you're not feeling it, or don't like it, or are not sure what to say, is to tell them that they could have done the opposite. In this case, they basically said that I wasn't taking a risk by choosing a child as a subject. That it was predictable. There is a mysterious line somewhere that separates using your strengths as an artist, and taking risks that could result in terrible work.Particularly with Jerry.I'm not sure why it was so important to him that we take these huge leaps out of our comfort zone.He has said on more than one occasion that he feels like we should be willing to fail flamboyantly, on a grand scale. I think we have checked that requirement off the list by being on national television, and participating in the competition to begin with.I think at times he felt like he was our teacher, trying to push us in new directions.I wasn't in the competition to go to school.I've been to school.I can go in new directions with my work according to my own time line.I don't need Jerry to push me in 50 directions within a time frame of a few weeks. That doesn't make sense to me. It shouldn't make sense. The format of the challenges and the competition in general is disconnected with art-making in reality without Jerry piling on that unwritten rule within the context of the show. I feel like the artists were brought to the show to do their thing, be judged, and see who is the most successful. What happened after Lola complained that it was unfair that thejudges enjoyed the unintentional falling candy? Did you talk with herwhile the judges deliberated? Mitchell: Nope. She thought it was lucky for me that the judges liked that aspect of the piece I guess. She thought I had no intention of the pieces falling. The truth about the falling candy is this:I knew some would fall.I couldn't (and didn't) know how many would fall and how fast they would fall.I chose not to have them cleaned up, I chose to just let them fall.So no, I didn't know that it would be like a constant stream of falling pieces throughout the exhibition, but yes, I did know at least some would fall and I chose before the opening to just let them fall. Whatever - it doesn't matter now does it? Check out today's news Which piece was your favorite to create during the competition? Mitchell: [My] favorite to make was easily the street art piece Young and I made. We worked all night under the Manhattan bridge up on scaffolding. We had a great view of the city, the weather was great, and we had great idea. That was a night I will never forget. It's not every day that I am making a 40-ft. piece of art at 2 a.m. in NY City. I can still hear the train going by on the bridge every minute. What did your wife have to say about seeing you in Young's shortshorts? Have you since bought a pair? Mitchell: She got a good laugh out of it.I have a pair of really short cut-off jeans that I wear to the lake as a joke during the summer. She calls them my "jorts" (short for jean shorts). So for her it wasn't as shocking as it was to most others. The night that episode aired, I sent a picture of me in my jorts to Young. What are you currently working on? Mitchell: Since I've been back, I've just been working and teaching.I have many art opportunities that are appearing on the horizon, but no confirmed dates for shows or anything right now.Sweet T is pregnant again, so we are expecting another baby in May which is exciting. We are looking to move to a bigger house.I'm kind of in a reset mode with everything it seems like.My family life is about to kind of restart with the new baby coming, and my art career is in a state of rebirth as well. I can feel that there are big changes coming in both aspects of my life. It's a good feeling to have.

Newt Gingrich: former Speaker of the home, GOP presidential nominee, 'Lord from the Rings' fanatic. OK, that third truth is just speculation, but you will naturally think it after watching Gingrich's new political ad, which, as Vanity Fair has stated, features music that sounds awfully like the Howard Shoreline composition Healing For Peter Jackson utilized in 'The Return from the King,' when Samwise Gamgee returns towards the Shire. Maybe Newt and Bilbo Baggins are long term buddies? Or, could he be owning the main one ring which will rule all of us? Again, all speculation. The show topics this week have included such journalistic queries as the ethics of spanking children, how to free one's life from clutter, and a "new trend" of parents gifting their children plastic surgery. ANE Productions requested the FCC's help in clarifying that the daytime talk show is indeed a news program. On Monday, the government agency responded with a thumbs up. Here's the ruling by FCC assistant chief Robert Baker declaring Anderson to be news for purposes of regulations. Specifically, one reg matters most of all -- Section 315 of the Communications of 1934, otherwise known as the "Equal Time Rule." The significance here is that TV and radio stations are obligated to treat political candidates equally, including giving them proportionate time on air. Congress has exempted news shows, though, meaning that if Anderson now wants to hear Newt Gingrich's feelings on spanking Mitt Romney, the stations that carry Cooper's syndicated show aren't obligated to hear what Buddy Roemer has to say too. Of course, there was hardly any doubt that Anderson would qualify for the exemption, even if the show's idea for a fun show oneuthanasia includes "Daniel the Miracle Dog." As the FCC's ruling points out, the TV show Entertainment Tonight has also qualified as a bona fide newscast after the agency decided its "role is not to decide, by some qualitative analysis, whether one kind of news story is more bona fide than another." For some reason, the FCC likes to italicize its bona fides so we will too. This is Your Life
Actors are Hollywood. One cannot survive without the other. During my research for "The Story of Hollywood: An Illustrated History," I realized why actors should care about the old buildings in Hollywood. It is their history. If we knew all the stories of all the actors in these buildings, every story would transfix us.When working actors first arrived in 1909, Hollywood was a sleepy town in a natural paradise. There were a few grain farms, lots of lemon orchards, and a street of unassuming business buildings (Hollywood Boulevard) to serve its residents. Hollywood was so remote, a local businessman closed his candy store to open a telegraph office, the only means of communication between movies and their NY headquarters. The residents of Hollywood didn't greet thespians with open arms. In fact, they hated them. Mostly retired Midwestern abolitionists, they had bought their land to subdivide specifically for teetotalers. That changed when a national frenzy for all things Hollywood sent their property values soaring. As hordes of people, mostly performers, arrived, landowners built hotels and apartment buildings in front and back yards to house them. For vagabond actors, Hollywood offered a chance for a permanent home and work. Landowners happily subdivided tracts into cozy bungalows for them. In 1909, Hollywood had already begun experimenting with exotic European-influenced homes, German castles and French chateaus, all built out of wood and stucco. These made perfect starter homes for a new film elite full of false grandeur. The biggest stars were investors in the redevelopment of Hollywood from bucolic suburb to self-proclaimed entertainment capital of the world. Office and retail buildings popped up during the roaring '20s, offering plenty of drugstores filled with sunglasses and theatrical makeup.New buildings fed the Hollywood machine for the next four decades. First-time visitors Bette Davis and her mother checked into Vine Street's Plaza Hotel. Ava Gardner stayed with her sister at the Wilcox Hotel. Mel Blanc and Stan Freberg walked into Hollywood Boulevard office buildings and started their careers. Sonny first saw Cher at a restaurant at Hollywood and Cahuenga. There are thousands and thousands of these stories, millions if you count the ones that go nowhere. Many actors had businesses in these buildings, starting with Henry Bergman, an actor in Charlie Chaplin's films, who opened a popular restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard. Rudolph Valentino had a short-lived nightclub next to the Roosevelt Hotel. Reginald Denny had a local hobby shop for decades. Alan Reed Enterprises, an import shop on Gardner north of Sunset, offered the earliest transistor radios directly from Fred Flintstone.Performers also had private social clubs. At one time, there were so many ex-vaudevillians in Hollywood, you could learn the art of the performer by hanging out at the Ontra Cafeteria at Hollywood and Vine. The theater to the north (now the Avalon) hosted a 1939 WPA smash-hit show built around them called "Two a Day." Variety artists had their own private club for decades called Troupers. Its last location, at 1627 N. La Brea Ave., was an old Victorian orchard house with an auditorium in the back yard. Two blocks east on Sycamore, film actors had the Masquers Club in a large house, the equivalent of any NY theatrical club. Both places and the Ontra building were demolished in the current redevelopment. It wounds when these places disappear. Some of the best old-Hollywood restaurantsthe Vine Street Brown Derby, Al Levy's, Villa Capri, Martoni's, Don the Beachcomb erhave been demolished since 1986.In the 1930s, Gertrude Stein visited her childhood home in Oakland, Calif., during a lecture tour. When she could not find her house, she said of the West Coast, "There is no there there." That's why it is important to preserve old buildings, especially within the Hollywood Entertainment District. So we can keep our here here. Greg Williams' book "The Story of Hollywood: An Illustrated History" is newly released in softcover. By Greg Williams November 23, 2011 Actors are Hollywood.
Casting Standout: 'J. Edgar'
Casting Standout: 'J. Edgar' By Thom Klohn November 24, 2011 Photo by Warner Bros. Kidpic trio will have trouble toppling 'Dawn'
A wealth of choices for family auds over Thanksgiving weekend could cause kidpic cannibalization. Disney's "The Muppets" is expected to top Aardman Animation's 3D CGI "Arthur Christmas" and Martin Scorsese's 3D, f/x-laden "Hugo." But B.O. observers aren't counting on Kermit and the gang to beat Summit's "Twilight" crew, as holdover "Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" is projected to gross in the $60 millions in five days. "The Muppets," which bows today at 3,440 locations, should earn somewhere north of $40 million through Sunday, according to pre-weekend tracking services. B.O. pundits expect Sony's "Arthur Christmas," which cost a reported $98 million, to earn $15 million-$17 million in five days at 3,376 locations, while Paramount's "Hugo," made by GK Films for a pricey $170 million, is tracking on the soft side in the low double digits, though it opens at just 1,277. All three wide openers are seeing more positive reviews than the average family pic, which could widen appeal. Overseas B.O. won't see a similar holiday boost, and "Breaking Dawn" should win again after last weekend's $152.9 million international bow. "Arthur Christmas" opens day-and-date in Australia, France and Japan, while "The Muppets" launches only in Mexico. Disney has a steady track record at the Thanksgiving box office. Last year, Disney's "Tangled" started out strong with a five-day take of $53.7 million. But that wasn't enough to beat "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," which collected $75 million in its second outing. Given the multigenerational appeal for "The Muppets," starring Amy Adams and Jason Segel and budgeted at a relatively inexpensive $45 million, some bizzers say the film could outdo expectations. And while some tracking runs as high as $48 million, the Mouse has offered a more modest prediction in the high $30 millions. Disney has flexed considerable marketing muscle in promoting to older teens and college-age students. The blitz unofficially began two years ago, when the Muppet Studio uploaded a version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" to YouTube that's since nabbed more than 23 million views; the campaign came to a head with the Muppets' recent appearance on "Saturday Night Live." "Breaking Dawn" should see a three-day week-to-week drop similar to that of "New Moon," which fell 72% this weekend in 2009. "New Moon" debuted with $143 million; "Breaking Dawn" collected $138 million opening weekend and has tallied almost $148 million so far. The penultimate "Twilight" pic has little competition for teen girls. When it comes to family films, however, the trio of new entries will compete with holdovers like "Happy Feet Two" and "Puss in Boots" to lure tots. "Feet" bowed last weekend to a soft $21 million in three days but should hold steady, with a projected five-day take in the mid-$20 millions. "Happy Feet Two" cumed nearly $23 million through Tuesday; "Puss in Boots" approaches $125 million domestically. 3D likely will have a marginal effect on both films. Last weekend, "Happy Feet" earned just 50% of its opening from 3D -- similar to "Puss in Boots" at 51%. That's better than some of the summer's 3D toons (e.g., "Cars 2") but down significantly from this time last year with films like "Megamind" and "Tangled." "Arthur Christmas" bows at 2,378 3D locations; "Hugo" has approximately 1,000 3D locations. Contact Andrew Stewart at andrew.stewart@variety.com

9 Milestones in the Evolution of Kirsten Dunst
In this weekend’s Melancholia, Kirsten Dunst stars as a conflicted bride anticipating the end of the world only hours after her wedding. So just how did Dunst transform herself from a child vampiress vixen to a Lars von Trier muse? You can always trace a direct line through a few important roles to illustrate what led to an actor’s current success. As such, let’s look at nine pivotal performances that track the evolution of Kirsten Dunst. Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994) After making her film debut in the Woody Allen short Oedipus Wrecks (part of the NY Stories anthology), Dunst, a New Jersey-born child fashion model, dabbled in acting before landing her breakthrough role in Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire adaptation. To win the prized role of Claudia, the mature vampire trapped inside the body of a ringlet-tressed 5-year-old, Dunst reportedly beat out other recognizable young actresses like Christina Ricci, Dominique Swain and Evan Rachel Wood. The wisdom and rage that the relative newbie conveyed behind a face so cherubic (not to mention that kiss with Brad Pitt, who is nearly two decades her senior) proved that Dunst was not just another child actress. For this role, Dunst was nominated for her first (and only, so far) Golden Globe. Jumanji (1995) The following year, bolstered by the one-two punch success of Interview with the Vampire and Little Women (in which Dunst impressed critics with her portrayal of Amy), the actress established herself as a bankable child star in the supernatural comedy Jumanji. As Judy Shepherd, an innocent board game player who unleashes Robin Williams and a jungle’s worth of nightmarish images while attempting to play the titular game with her brother, Dunst helped ground a movie packed with Williams’s zany energy and a terrifying special effects bonanza. Although it received mixed reviews, Jumanji grossed over $250 million worldwide, ensuring that Dunst was also one of the most exposed young actresses in the mid-’90s. Fifteen and Pregnant (1998) Some audiences may argue that The Virgin Suicides marked Kirsten Dunst’s crossover into adolescence — but clearly, they have never seen a greasy high school kid unbutton Kirsten Dunst’s jean shorts and impregnate her (offscreen obviously) in the uber-educational and unintentionally hilarious television drama Fifteen and Pregnant.” How Dunst went from the above blockbusters to a TV movie in which she stars as Tina Spangler opposite an actress named Park Overall and back to a successful blockbuster franchise like Spider-Man is incredible. If you want to learn more about this movie, I encourage you to head over to the remarkably detailed plot summary on Wikipedia (kudos to whoever completed that), watch the entire movie available on YouTube and then I implore you to use the actual line “sperm doesn’t entitle you to much” to your teenage daughter’s deadbeat baby daddy next time he shows up at the delivery room with his new girlfriend. The Virgin Suicides (1999) After a few forgettable films (All I Wanna Do and True Heart, anyone?), Dunst rebounded with her critical breakthrough in The Virgin Suicides. In her first collaboration with Sofia Coppola, Dunst earned positive reviews for her restrained portrayal of Lux, the most rebellious of the five overprotected Lisbon sisters in this ‘dark 70s-era tale of suicidal sisterly despair.

Tarsem Singh Promises His Snow White-colored Movie Will probably be 'Sickeningly Kiddie,' Has Title In Your Head
For those who have seen the serial killer thriller 'The Cell' or caught glimpses of Tarsem Singh's new action movie, 'Immortals,' you might be surprised to know the director who favors ultra-violent, entrails-heavy situations is pointing the Snow White-colored movie that does not feature Billy Burke transporting a sword. Moviefone sitting lower while using director (look for our approaching discuss how 'Immortals' pushes the R-rating towards the limits) which he revealed the untitled film with Lily Collins and Jennifer Aniston will most likely be considered a "very sweet kiddie" movie. He's also got an idea for your title. The following film is Snow White-colored... That's for children. So no a person's getting disembowled? I am hoping not. They asked for me essentially wanted making it edgy which i mentioned, "No interest, virtually no interest." It's a children's movie, but my stuff is generally polarizing. When it's for children, it's like, sickeningly kiddie, so when it's another way, it's sickeningly graphic for people. Are both Appropriate for me personally. It's comme ci comme ça that i'm scared of. It's interesting, because inside the rival Snow White-colored project, Snow White-colored can be obtained killing people it seems, based on 'Immortals,' that you'd be attracted compared to that version. Not whatsoever. That's exactly what the studio thought, that I'd desire to make it edgy. It's a family movie. After I am finished with violence, you will not get anything aside from an R rating. So If only to produce a kiddie movie. It's a mythic for children as well as the family. Just embrace it. If you want to push the envelope making Snow White-colored edgy, In my opinion edgy to whom? Edgy for Disney or edgy for Gasper Noé? Which kind of violence do you want and i am not interested whatsoever within it. Therefore I got the film that we wanted which is another film. You believe your similar type of filmmaker to Gasper Noé? No, In my opinion his films are great. In my opinion [Michael] Haneke is fantastic. They aren't similar filmmakers whatsoever, they're just making their personal films. Personally, i -- although In my opinion my films are not like his -- wish to possess the kind of products that Roman Polanski makes. Whatever he's made, you will see him within it, from 'Knife inside the Water' to 'Chinatown,' you can't tell which is a lot more of him. In all of them, he's his DNA within it. Therefore I don't care even tho it's a mythic or possibly a film about gods or serial killings, The most effective to ensure that I'm within it. What's your DNA that you're trading inside your movies? If you are in a position to define it, it's very small. It's a very extended mortal coil, if you are in a position to define it, there's an issue. By simply general token, I'd say it's generally polarizing to a lot of people. When it's violent, it's generally somewhat extreme then when it's sweet, it's generally somewhat sweet, however when you haven't seen 'The Fall,' you wouldn't know very well what I'm talking about. It seems as being a Russian establishing the first artwork we view up to now. Don't believe posters and trailers. They just put that out since they're thinking, "Oh, we should put something out, so let's launched the initial drawing that was done just before the director ever did an assortment. In . I used to be beginning while using forest much more in comparison to castle, much more, when you mentioned, 'Alexander Nevsky' [in reference to the 'Immortals' elaborate headgear] but much more Andrei Tarkovsky's 'Ivan the Terrible' [Erection dysfunction note: Sergei Eisenstein really directed 'Ivan the Terrible' and 'Alexander Nevsky'], but it's much closer to [the The the spanish language language architect] Gaudi in the snowy place, which he's never done. So, just mix people up. Will you have a title yet for your film? Not. If perhaps. But apparently there's some legal stuff being taken proper care of. It is therefore not always your choice just what the title's apt to be? No, it's all regulated controlled legal areas. Personally, 'Snow,' might be perfect, just 'Snow.' About This Time Oscar Nominee John Hawkes Experienced a battle around the Group of 'Johnny Be Good'
In 1988, there is a dreadful movie launched known as 'Johnny Be Great,A starring Anthony Michael Hall like a star senior high school quarterback. If there have been any residual doubt regarding how bad 'Johnny Be Good' is really, you need to just re-browse the last ten words from the previous sentence. Among the cultural oddities of 'Johnny Be Good' is the fact that future Academy Award nominee John Hawkes seems like a pizza delivery boy who ends up around the receiving finish of the cake-to-the-face shipped by Paul Gleason ('The Breakfast Club,' 'Trading Places'). For reasons I do not understand, I made the decision to create up 'Johnny Be Good' while talking to Hawkes about his quite fantastic performance in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' (the entire interview will publish in a few days). When I learned, the film is -- naturally -- not Hawkes' favorite subject, and also the inquiry brought towards the following awkward exchange. It works out, while pushing a cake into Hawkes' face, Gleason most likely did not exactly pull his punch -- resulting in a problem around the set. [Note, Hawkes did not really title Gleason because the instigator, but after watching the embedded clip below, it's pretty simple to decipher the "older actor" that Hawkes refers.] What exactly are your reminiscences of playing the pizza guy in 'Johnny Be Good'? My dear god. It's among the first a few things i did and it is most likely probably the most embarrassing things. And it is something which I attempt to type of really forget and never discuss. Only because I fell the job was pretty awful on my small finish. I had been residing in Texas, it had been money -- there have been several things about this job which were not great. I'd rather not go too deeply in it. I'd an problem by having an older actor that has died who had been pretty mean in my experience, physically, within the movie. To the stage where there is intercession using their company stars. Anyway, it had been simply not an excellent experience, I'd say. I've no clue why I introduced that up. Also it was going so well! Personally i think I simply destroyed the entire factor. Not whatsoever, guy. Honestly, I'd haven't thought inside a million years the 'Johnny Be Good' will be a questionable subject. Well, I am just embarrassed because of it. I am also just embarrassed through the work, but, you realize, that's the way you learn and then try to improve the next time. I accept your scorn. Aw, no scorn. Let's focus on days I'm going to be screaming during my shower, "Why did I must mention 'Johnny Be Good'?! Why?!" Mix them back their email list. This is the trouble with IMDb, too, since you hope individuals little small ones would be a waste. It will stick out whenever you think about John Hawkes. "'Johnny Be Good'? That's strange." And Uma Thurman, seriously. And Robert Downey Junior. -- they are those who have been nominated for large honours... on their worst. It is a positive thing that people don't think about you when when 'Johnny Be Good' is pointed out. I love that. Will American Horror Story Be considered a Hit for Forex? Phone The Recent Past of Horror on television
The Walking Dead, True Bloodstream, Supernatural In the past, horror has not scared up an excellent history on television. Supernatural series? Yes. Terrifying ones? No. What's promising for Forex, which on Wednesday launches American Horror Story, is the fact that audiences appear to become growing braver. Millions have dared to look from behind their fingers, making hits from the Walking Dead and True Bloodstream. Even if Puppy nip/Tuck dipped its scalpels into overt horror -- terrorizing us with sadistic serial killer The Carver -- it came record amounts to Forex. But do audiences possess the stomach for any haunted house imagined up by Ryan Murphy and Kaira Falchuk, who gave us both Glee and Puppy nip/Tuck? American Horror Story's got veteran stars Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott and Jessica Lange, but additionally a homicidal basement-dwelling creature, angry twin redheads, an enigmatic, er, spirit inside a fetish suit, demonic wall art, a grotesque burn victim... and that is just within the first episode. To gauge the show's chances, we glance back in the last two decades of horror TV: Dark Shadows revival (1991, NBC), Nightmare Café (1992, NBC), American Medieval (1995-96, CBS): The best-time reboot of cult melodrama Dark Shadows elevated conflicted Barnabas Collins (whose friends incorporated a youthful Frederick Gordon-Levitt) like a more feral lovelorn vampire. Fans fell, and difficult, before start of the Gulf War and erratic arranging cooled rankings. Annually later, NBC used Wes Craven and Robert Englund's Nightmare Café, a weekly mix between Nightmare on Elm Street and also the Twilight Zone that survived just six episodes. Some thing sinister showed up in 1995, when CBS unleashed the bone-chilling, genre-bender American Medieval starring Gary Cole being an immoral sheriff - read: murderous maniac - of the creepy small town in Sc. Experts talked, but a too-small audience forced the network to decrease it following a season. Start Looking: Ryan Murphy's "psychosexual thriller" American Horror Story -- it's really no Glee! Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003, The WB and UPN) and Angel (1999-2004, The WB): Buffy funneled the majority of her teen angst into slaying vampires of the underworld, and in that way grew to become a genre success story, whilst the show combined the demonic and adult styles with many different snark and comedy. Buffy's most terrifying episode "Hush", a nearly dialogue-free hour where the ghastly Gentlemen take away the hearts of sufferers who cannot scream, gained the show an Emmy nomination for writing, and because of rabid fans and fawning experts, the show survived seven seasons. Its more dark, more grown-up spinoff, Angel, also trafficked in tangible frights, most memorably having a full-scale exorcism - and also the disturbing twist that adopted -- in "I have Got You Under My Skin." Kingdom Hospital (2004, ABC): Stephen King's adaptation of Lars von Trier's very frightening and uber-strange Danish series, The Dominion, starred Andrew McCarthy like a physician inside a haunted hospital lived on through the ghost of the Civil-War-era child laborer along with a giant anteater-like creature with jagged teeth, among other peculiar living types. (It's no surprise: A healthcare facility was built within the site of two terrible fires, the 2nd which destroyed a classic hospital where an evil physician carried out experiments on his patients.) A lot more than 14 million audiences examined the premiere, evidence of an appetite for horror. However, many updated out right after and it wasn't restored for any second season. Ryan Murphy and Kaira Falchuk: The 6 stuff that inspired American Horror Story Point Enjoyable (2005, Fox): When Satan's daughter Christina, who does not know she's the spawn of evil, washes ashore inside a quiet Nj beach town... well, yeah, bad stuff goes lower -- specifically for any selfish, self-centered citizens who deserve it. Despite an encouraging premise from Buffy vet Marti Noxon, Fox audiences did not look after the light scares - mean bugs! jealous teens! - triggered through the good-searching Child of Darkness (or her good-searching co-stars Grant Show and Mike Page). The show was drawn after just eight episodes broadcast. Supernatural (2005-ongoing, The WB and also the CW): What began out as two siblings on the highway within their Impala fighting devils looking for the reality is continuing to grow right into a fight of Scriptural proportions between good and evil. Mike and Dean have even visited hell and back. (Really, they have adopted Lucifer themself!) Supernatural has lengthy outlasted series creator Eric Kripke's original five-season plan, and won on the small but devoted crowd (as well as fans in high places). "How about we they simply leave?" Ryan Murphy promises solutions in Horror Story Masters of Horror (2005-07, Showtime): Showtime commissioned an anthology of films from respected horror maestros, including John Contractor, Joe Dante and John Landis, in addition to beginners, who have been given creative carte blanche to experience in pay cable's mostly uncensored space. Cause the sex and gore! The resulting two seasons' price of films were a mixed bag, based on reviews, but horror aficionados appeared pleased the project happened on tv whatsoever (save for Takashi Miike's "Imprint," that was launched only on DVD following the network considered it too disturbing to air.) Fear Itself (2008, NBC): Inspired by Masters, NBC attempted a horror anthology of their own, rounding up film veterinarians like Ronny Yu and Stuart Gordon to complete their worst (although for any general broadcast audience). The scares ranged from nasty (in "Eater," Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss performed a recently employed cop facing served by a Cajun serial-killing cannibal) to mundane (in "New Year's Day," Glee's Cory Monteith found themself encircled by zombies). Reviews were mixed and also the show survived two several weeks before low rankings (the premiere came a set-high 5.29 million audiences) and also the summer time Olympic games pressed them back the schedule permanently. Ryan Murphy talks new Forex show American Horror Story: Everybody was freaked by the creature! True Bloodstream (2008-ongoing, Cinemax): Perhaps probably the most effective horror show on television up to now, Alan Ball's adaptation of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries was frightening, sexed up, politically billed and plenty gory if this opened. It had been also polarizing - experts were dramatically divided and just 1.4 million audiences examined the very first airing. But over subsequent episodes, audiences soon found their distance to the cheesy, cleaning soap operatic shenanigans of Bon Temps' backwoods, where Sookie and her undead paramours braved supernatural - and very salty -- devils. Episode 9 from the recent 4th season came a set-high 5.5 million audiences (excluding individuals who DVR'd or viewed later airings around the network). Harper's Island (2009, CBS): Seven years after John Wakefield continued a murder spree on Harper's Island, the daughter of 1 of his sufferers returns to celebrate her best friend's wedding -- hey, why don't you? - and also the killing starts again. Unlike the unnerving American Medieval, CBS wished Harper's Island's was the type of slasher fest - dismemberments, burnings, a regrettable chandelier drop - loved by audiences who made Scream and that i Understand What You Probably Did Last Summer time box office hits. Experts appreciated the guilty-pleasure thrills and kills, but CBS wasn't within the mood to become patient. After three episodes, the show was knocked from the Thursday timeslot to Saturday nights, where it averaged just below 4 million audiences. Take a look at photos of yankee Horror Story The Walking Dead (2010-ongoing, AMC): Occur the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, several Atlanta children band together to remain obvious from the "ramblers" looking forward to their brains. Not quite what audiences expected from AMC, a network which had just put itself into the spotlight rich in-brow period drama Mad Males and also the explosively gritty Breaking Bad. But Walking Dead, Frank Darabont's slow-moving, motion picture-in-scope adaptation of Robert Kirkman's graphic books, first showed on Halloween to almost universal acclaim and also the greatest rankings within the good reputation for the network. Which means a lot more than 5 million people viewed Ron and Glenn stomach a spook and smear themselves using its smelly insides. Nice. Wes Craven talks Scream 5
You will see a Scream 5 based on director Wes Craven, despite a disappointing box office performance for Scream 4."Yes. The possibilities that you will see [a Scream 5]. It's something which Bob Weinstein really wants to do. He has a tendency to do what he really wants to do. And So I am inclined to consider that you will see [another follow up]. Whether I'll take part in it or otherwise? I'm not sure. My contract provides me with the very first look. When they show me something that's really wonderful? Obviously I'll take part in it," Craven told Movieweb. The director also confirmed that Scream 4 was said to be the start of a brand new trilogy for that franchise: "Starting [Scream 4], the very first meeting I'd with Kevin Williamson he did sketch out a Scream 5 and 6. The concept was that people used to do the very first inside a new trilogy. We needed to wait to ascertain if we made enough cash on each film to create the next viable. In the event that happens, individuals two will develop the concepts as well as an idea that's worth fulfilling."The same is true the finish of Scream 4 indicate in which the fifth film goes?InchI would need to kill you basically said. It's better with an ending in which you can't tell where it is going to go next than with an ending in which you go, 'Oh, that's the hook for that follow up. That's the hook for the following one.' We felt it had been easier to allow the audience speculate rather than have many of these clues put into their lap. It isn't dependent on not wise enough. We are clever only at that, let us just place it this way,Inch he stated.

The X Factor Week 2 Recap: The Idol judges Play Mean
La, Calif. -- The X Factor ended its audition models phase on Thursday evening, tugging in probably the most original talent from the competition to date both good and positively awful. Within the spirit of saving the very best for last, well run lower the worst first, which needed to function as the idol judges behavior. Sure, Clarissa Cheatham, a 27-year-old office clerk, who passes the nickname Cashmere, was awful as she gave a tone hard of hearing rendition of Continually Be My Baby by Mariah Carey, but Simon Cowell was worse. Clarissas smile faded when Simon, before 1000's, couldnt control his laughing because he informed her, Cashmere, whenever you stated that individuals screamed after [you carried out] karaoke, I dont believe that would be a compliment, giving the sense he was poking fun at her. More brutal than Clarissa getting the wind removed of her sails was L.A. Reid telling Emily, one-1 / 2 of teenage Glee-esque group (think Rachel and Kurt) Ausem, that only her partner Austin would be a star. No disrespect, L.A. started as Emilys face dropped, but I am not convinced from the duo. Fortunately, Simon lobbied on their behalf, plus they got through. For the great stuff, there is plenty, starting with a pint-sized teen having a heck of lots of attitude John Bradley. The small guy, just 14, hit happens, demanding in the rap the listener, stop searching inside my mother! You're arrogant, obnoxious, argumentative, however, you are among the most gifted youthful people Ive heard inside a lengthy, very long time, Simon stated. L.A., however, had much, much loftier praise. I did previously run this label known as Def Jam, and all sorts of time which i was there' was searching for only you never walked in, so Im the luckiest guy on the planet that you simply walked into my existence today, he stated. Tora Woloshin, 21, hit happens searching just like a mixture of Rhianna and Kat Von D, however when she opened up her mouth to sing The Jackson Fives I Really Want You Back she rocked the amount by helping cover their a rock grit to her large, poppy voice. Theres something in regards to you, the moment you go out, Simon talked. Thats why this show is known as The X Factor its not only a voice, its another thing and i believe you may be really special. Pretty-on-the-eyes Brennin Search, 26, from Nashville, Tenn., appeared as if one, but he wasnt only a good looks, carrying out an authentic song The Way We Allow It To Be and simply sailing with the idol judges election. Jazzlyn Little was scared when she hit happens, and may barely respond when Simon requested her a quick question like her age 16 however when the background music came on (Mary J. Bliges Im Heading Down), she was nowhere near to a shy young girl. Paula Abdul and Nicole hugged one another in disbelief and L.A. wondered aloud where her large seem originated from.
